Today I’m talking about some of the music I’m currently listening to. My playlist is usually a mix of Korean and western music these days, as I’m surrounded by K-pop on a daily basis!

Akdong Musician

First up is a K-Pop group, Akdong Musician (or AKMU). These guys are really sweet and a little bit quirky; their sound is quite refreshing compared to typical K-Pop.

Akdong Musician actually came out of a Korean idol competition (K-pop Star 2). This surprised me because I would’ve expected them to look and sound a lot more manufactured. They’re a brother-sister duo who sing about love and life. They’re very popular at the moment, with their songs played alongside the likes of 2NE1 and Taeyang on the radio. Their top 3 songs are: Give Love, 200% and Melted. Give Love is my favourite because it’s catchy and cute and I love the subtle little graphics in the video. Melted is a really emotional song with a haunting video. I didn’t like it at first (especially after listening to Give Love) but it’s definitely growing on me.

I’m very excited because I’m going to see AKMU in August! They’re playing at the AIA Real Life Now festival, alongside K-Pop greats from YG Family: Psy, Big Bang, 2NE1 and more. I get to see all of them in one amazing night!!

Iggy Azalea

The other artist I can’t get out of my head is Iggy Azalea! I didn’t like her trashiness and obnoxiousness when I first heard Bounce and other songs a few years ago, but after Fancy came out I’ve had The New Classic on repeat for weeks. It’s my go-to guilty pleasure when I get home from work after 10pm. I sit at my computer designing or blogging and listening to songs like ‘Work‘ – “I be up all night… working on my shiiiiittttt”. It’s somehow super inspiring for late-night working! I really love some of the fashion in her videos too. My favourites are the brightly coloured, patterned shorts she wears.

I think the whole album is really great, but my favourites would have to be: Change Your Life, Work, Fancy and Black Widow. I can’t wait to hear more from her!

Are you a fan of Iggy or AKMU? What’s on your playlist at the moment?
